Our second new chorister introduction of the season is contralto Nicole Joy Mitchell. Nicole began singing with us in 2019 and, as her middle name suggests, is a joy to sing with. Welcome, Nicole! We are so lucky to have you! 🎉 Nicole Joy Mitchell, contralto, is a proud native of Brooklyn, New York and has performed around the country and the world. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2019 as part of the ensemble in the GRAMMY Award winning production of the Gershwins’ #PorgyandBess. She has performed in several productions since including the historic GRAMMY Award winning opera by Terence Blanchard, #FireShutUpInMyBones. She has performed at @nycopera, @piedmontopera, @tanglewoodmusicfestival, @sarasotaopera, @portlandopera, @teatrosancarlo in Italy and @semperoper in Germany. In 2022, Nicole performed the role of iconic Civil Rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer at @santafeopera in the world premiere of #ThisLittleLightofMine, the Story of Fannie Lou Hamer by composer @carterchandler and librettist @nomolog. As a NYC based artist she has performed regularly with American Opera Projects (now #TheAmericanOperaProject) singing and premiering the works of new composers and has workshopped new operas for the @nyutisch Opera Writing Workshop. Nicole has worked in film, done voiceover work and in 2021 she composed and performed her own setting of Walt Whitman’s Poets to come! as a dedication to her dear friend #GregTrupiano who founded the #WaltWhitmanProject. She is a graduate of Buffalo State College and @msm.nyc where she received her master’s degree. A new, local craft beer is now available at Met Opera! Richard Pearson, @metoperachorus bass, has teamed up with @patinarestaurantgroup and @aspirebrewing to create OPA! #OperaPerfettoAle which made its debut on opening night. Rick and a few of his colleagues model their flight suits from #Grounded with a can to celebrate the opening of the season. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of OPA! go to various musical education programs, helping our next generations find a voice. When you’re in the opera house, be sure enjoy some OPA!

We have opened four operas at @metopera in the last two weeks and our season has taken flight! We want to take a moment to introduce you to our new choristers. First, we begin with Bass Jason Eck. Jason has been a member of the #MetOperaExtraChorus for a number of seasons and we are so lucky to have him join our Bass section full-time! Welcome, @giasone911! Jason Eck is positively thrilled to be joining the Metropolitan Opera Chorus this season. Mr. Eck was born and raised in Apalachin, NY and attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music @oberlincon and Indiana University @iubloomington.  A versatile performer, Jason is an Operatic soloist (Opera Theatre of St. Louis @operatheatrestl, Atlanta Opera @theatlantaopera) an Oratorio soloist (Haydn ‘Creation’, Bach ‘St John Passion’) and a lover/performer of early music (Monteverdi ‘Vespers’, BWV 58, 82, 127, 140). He lives in Queens with his pianist/librarian husband Dustin and their two children: Miniature Pinscher Anna and Chihuahua mix Frank.
